Did you know that Nami Island wasn't originally an island? It was formed when they made the Cheongpyeong Dam in 1944. It was named after General Nami. Although Nami island is only 3.8 km away from Gapyeong County, it is considered part of Chuncheon. Chuncheon is famous for 닭갈비 which is a spicy stir-fried chicken dish. We will be having that for lunch. Nami Island declared it’s cultural independence in 2006 and has thus named themselves Naminara Republic. They have their own passports, stamps, coins, telephone cards and even their own flag. The most famous drama that was filmed here was “Winter Sonata”.

When the Gyeongchun Line, a double-tracked railway line connecting Seoul and Chuncheon, opened on December 20, 2010, it replaced the Mugunghwa train that traveled this route for 70 years. Built on the site where the train on the Gyeongchun Line stops, Gangchon Rail Park is a popular tourist attraction where visitors can pedal along old railroad tracks while taking in the lovely Bukhangang River scenery. This rail park was also featured on Running Man, a popular Korean variety show.
It opened on August, 2012, the rail park operates from three stations: Gimyujeong Station, Gangchon Station, and Gyeonggang Station. The distance between Gimyujeong Station and Gangchon Station is approximately 8km.
Our tour starts from Gimyujeong Station and you ride your way to Gangchon Station.

Le Petite France is a French cultural village set in the Korean countryside. It consists of 16 French-style buildings where visitors can lodge and experience French food, clothing, and household culture.
The concept of Petite France encapsulates ‘flowers, stars, and the Little Prince.’ The village contains a memorial hall dedicated to Saint-Exupery, the author of the celebrated French novel, Le Petit Prince (1943) and as such it is often called the 'Little Prince theme park'. It also has a gallery displaying sculptures and paintings of le coq gaulois (the Gallic rooster), the national symbol of France;
